Brushed motors are the basic type of all motors. They not only have the advantages of quick start, timely braking, smooth speed control, and simple control, but also have a simple structure and low price.
In motors, the rotating part after being energized is called the "rotor", and the fixed part is called the "stator". In brushed motors, the coils are on the rotor, and the magnets are on the stator. When the coil is energized, it will be forced to rotate in the magnetic field.
Brushed motors, as the most basic type of motor, rotate when energized, and the control is simple. They are the first choice for beginners. Brushless motors, especially when reversing is required, have higher control requirements.
However, the brushes are also the main culprit for the short lifespan of brushed motors. Due to continuous sliding and friction, the brushes will constantly wear out. Therefore, brushed motors must be replaced with carbon brushes regularly to maintain normal operation.
Brushless motors use electronic commutation, using external electronic equipment to periodically change the current in the coils, thereby forming the correct direction of magnetic force to drive the motor. They are small in size, light in weight, fast in speed, but the price is slightly higher compared to brushed motors.
In terms of losses, since brushless motors use permanent magnets, the rotor has no iron core to consume, so brushless motors have higher efficiency and reduce the maintenance of the motor, extending its lifespan.
Brushless motors have a longer lifespan than brushed motors, consume less power during startup, but the controller cost is higher than that of brushed controllers.

From the application perspective, brushless motors are more popular. In conclusion, brushless motors are better than brushed motors, but whether it is a brushed motor or a brushless motor, daily maintenance measures must be taken to use them longer.
